French Enamel Pitcher

A classic French enamel pitcher of the type widely produced in France from the late 19th century through the early 20th century, used in bedrooms and washrooms for pouring water into a basin. This French enamel pitcher displays the elongated, tapering conical form typical of the genre, with a wide flared base narrowing sharply toward the neck before opening into a broad pouring spout.

The body is coated in white enamel over a pressed steel core, with a dark navy blue rolled rim edge that is characteristic of French production from this period. The handle is a simple curved loop, also white-enameled, attached at the neck and mid-body. The enamel surface retains good overall coverage, with visible age-related wear including rust spotting at the neck collar junction, light chipping along the base rim, and a small rust hole at the front neck seam where the spout meets the collar ring. The interior shows light patina consistent with age and use. These are honest signs of a piece that has been in active use and has aged naturally over decades. No repairs are evident.

The pitcher measures 37cm tall (approximately 14.6"), and the base diameter is approximately 16cm (6.3") as estimated from the photos. The wide spout opening measures approximately 12cm (4.7") across.

This type of white enamel water pitcher is a sought-after piece among collectors of French country kitchenware and vintage enamelware. Its tall, clean silhouette makes it well suited for use as a vase or decorative accent on a shelf, sideboard or kitchen counter, particularly in farmhouse and industrial-style interiors.
